Departmental Overview

Ghazi University is a sector public university, chartered by the Punjab Government of Pakistan in 2012. Ghazi University caters to the educational needs of the Southern Punjab and surrounding areas by offering diverse educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels to produce well rounded graduates capable of making a positive impact on the development of the society by becoming good citizens and transformation leaders. The Ghazi University is committed to promote and impart quality education with character building of the new generation in the light of Islamic principles and values.

The Department of Botany is striving hard in plant sciences to up-lift and produce skilled young lot for better future. Department of Botany is one of the leading departments of the University with a handsome number of under/postgraduate students and three permanent faculty members including four visiting faculty members. The faculty members are motivated to initiate M. Phil and PhD Program. At present, the department is seeking a platform for research and student activities.

The Department of Botany is striving hard to enhance student’s expertise in Plant Sciences to up-lift and produce skilled young lot for better future of the country and ensure the realization of vision of clean and green Pakistan

Mission

The basic mission of the Department is provision of quality education with the aim of producing trained and skilled human resources in various fields of Plant Sciences through formal teaching, research and outreach activities. Program objectives intend to impart not only theoretical information to students but moral and ethical information as well. Ghazi University provides a platform to students to get knowledge of their desired field and learn the Islamic ways in order to carry out their duties.

The Botany graduates can excel in disciplines related to Applied Plant Sciences such as, Phytotechnologies, Agricultural Sciences, Agronomy, Biodiversity Conservation, Biotechnology, Breeding, Economic Botany, Environmental Sciences, Ethnobotany, Food Science and Technology, Forestry, Horticulture, Marine Botany, Natural Resource Management, Plant Pathology, Plant Entomology and Sustainable Ecosystem Services. The major employers of plant biologists are educational institutions, federal and state agencies, as well as industries. Job opportunities usually depend upon educational training and experience. New positions in Botany are expected to increase at an above-average rate through the turn of the century. Growing world population continues to increase the need for better food supplies. Environmental concerns, such as air, water and soil pollution, will create openings for Ecologists in government and industry. The search for new drugs and medicines and useful genes for improving crop plants will continue to create a need for botanical explorers.
