Departmental Overview

Department of Forestry, Range and Wildlife was established in 2014, when college of Agriculture Dera Ghazi Khan was merged into Ghazi University and became the part of Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

Initially this Department was limited to offer the minor courses of forestry and range management as a major subject for the students of B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture. The major in Forestry, Range and Wildlife was started in fall 2019-20. Focusing the forests, range and wildlife situation of the country, department is striving for the excellence in research and education. The prime aims of the department are to ensure sustainable flow of wood and non-wood forest products and services, as well as needs to adopt e the innovative and sustainable strategies for the protection of Biodiversity for future generation prosperity. . Highly qualified faculty is contributing in research and academic activities with their maximum potential for the sustainable growth in agro-forestry.

Vision

To have an excellence in Forestry education, research and capacity building to enhance sustainable economic, ecological, and social benefits from forests, rangelands, wildlife and related natural resources to the society.

Mission

The basic mission of the Department is to provide quality education with the aim to produce trained and skilled human resources in various fields of Forestry through formal class room teaching, field & laboratory research and outreach activities. Program objectives intend to:

  • impart basic knowledge and scientific skills in forestry and related fields
  • build up the department on modern lines for education, research and training
  • conduct research focusing sustainable forest, range and Wildlife management & conservation
  • engage local society, forest, range & Wildlife officials to identify the problems and find the solutions of those problems.
  • promote awareness among all stakeholders, policy makers and community in general about forests, range & Wildlife Conservation and management for sustainable development.
  • develop closer linkages with line departments and research organizations for mutual collaboration in research/developmental activities
