Departmental Overview

The Food security and Food safety are the core intent of the human populations of 21st century round the globe. Food wastage from postharvest to the consumers shelf are also need of the era. Food scarcity at one region and disorders due to excess nutrient intake at other region are the matter of today’s discussion. Human life style, diseases and nutrition are interrelated. Effective policies encompassing the government, industry, education and research corners are required to combat these issues.

Research based trained and qualified human resources may be the most effective solution to such problems which unfortunately is not up to the mark in Pakistan. Therefore, considering the scenario, anticipating the academic programs in food sciences will contribute to dire national needs. Keeping in view the importance of the discipline of Food Science and Technology, Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology started it at Ghazi University in 2021. In Fall semester 2025, the 5th session has been enrolled.

Initially this department was limited to offer minor courses of Agricultural Engineering and Food Science & Technology for the students of B. Sc. (Hons) Agriculture. This Department has highly qualified staff having Ph.D degree and research in their respective domains within Agricultural Engineering and Food Technology. Currently this Department has one associate professor (BPS) of Food Technology, one Assistant Professor (IPFP), one lecturer (BPS) of Agricultural Engineering and six Visiting Lecturers. Department has basic equipment in Laboratory (joined) to carry out teaching, practical and research of Food Science and Technology. 

 

Our undergraduate program is arranged to prepare students to address food processing, preservation, food engineering and related challenges in Pakistan and around the globe. Currently, we are offering undergraduate program BS-Food Science and Technology. After graduation, our students will be able to serve in Public and Private sector in research, academia, industry, advisory, regulatory authorities and community.

The youth will be equipped with expertise to drive sustainable food practices, enhance food security, and improve public health by promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement. 

Mission

To equip and prepare youth to accept and accomplish challenges of global food safety and food security situations through sturdy, approachable and safe educational environment to cope the national and international food needs.
