Departmental Overview

The Department of Saraiki and Balochi is an academic and research-oriented department dedicated to the study, promotion, and preservation of two major regional languages of Pakistan. Saraiki and Balochi represent rich linguistic traditions, classical and modern literature, folklore, history, and cultural identity of their respective regions. The department provides students with a comprehensive understanding of linguistics, literary criticism, poetry, prose, and oral traditions associated with both languages. Through quality teaching and scholarly research, the department aims to nurture critical thinking, cultural awareness, and academic excellence among students. It plays a significant role in safeguarding regional heritage by documenting indigenous knowledge, folk literature, and cultural expressions. Graduates of the department are well-equipped to contribute to education, research, media, translation, and cultural institutions, promoting linguistic diversity and national integration. The Department of Saraiki and Balochi at Ghazi University was established in August 2022. Currently, four classes of BS Saraiki and two classes of BS Balochi are functioning in the department. The total number of enrolled students is 94, including 74 students in the BS Saraiki program and 20 students in the BS Balochi program. This department has organized several cultural programs, including the Siraiki Cultural Stall, the Khwaja Farid Seminar, and seminars on various topics. In addition, it organized an International Sufi Conference. Moreover, an organization named Khwaja Farid Literary Society was established, through which the Department of Siraiki published two literary journals titled Darsal and Til Phul, which hold significant importance in the promotion of Siraiki literature and culture

Interdisciplinary & Collaborative Engagement Encourage links with departments like History, Anthropology, Education, and Performing Arts. Promote interdisciplinary research that contextualizes language within politics, identity, and development. 8. Language Technology & Modern Applications Explore computational language tools (dictionaries, corpora, text analysis) for Saraiki and Balochi. Support translation initiatives that connect local literatures to a global audience. 9.
