Dr. wajad Nazeer

Associate Professor

Biography

Plant breeder with cross-functional expertise in evolving new cotton varieties and plant management. Dr. Nazeer is a distinguished researcher and scholar with a remarkable career dedicated to the field of cotton breeding with the great achievement of the breeder of five cotton varieties viz., MNH-886, MNH-1016, MNH-1020, MNH-1026, MNH-1035. With 18 years of extensive experience in research and development. Throughout my career, I have completed three cotton projects, showcasing my expertise in this specialized field. I served as a Team Scientist in two notable projects, PARB Project #27 (“Introgression of cotton leaf curl virus resistance genes from Gossypium arboreum (Desi cotton) into Gossypium hirsutum” (collaboration with the University of Arkansas USA and A&M University of Texas) and #215 (Development and commercialization of Cotton Leaf Curl Virus resistant/tolerant indigenous transgenic Bt and Glyphosate-resistant cotton hybrids), further underscoring his collaborative and innovative approach to research. One project titled “Identification of inter/intraspecific breeding lines tolerant to cotton leaf curl disease and finding out impacts of disease on polygenic traits of upland cotton” was completed as PI of the Project under HEC grant Project #1054.

Scholarly work is truly impressive, with a total of 58 publications. Additionally, I have authored three books / chapters to various publications, further sharing my knowledge and expertise with the academic community.

My dedication to excellence has been acknowledged on the international stage, with the receipt of the Excellent International Student Award from Nanjing Agricultural University in China for the years 2013 and 2014. This prestigious recognition reflects a commitment to academic and research excellence.

In addition to my research accomplishments, I have made a significant impact as an educator and mentor, supervising 11 postgraduate students in their academic pursuits.

The commitment to lifelong learning is reflected in my participation in 35 professional training programs, and 35 national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops continually enhancing my skills, and knowledge and adding valuable insights to the field of cotton breeding.

Furthermore, I have delivered various Plenary Talks and served as a keynote speaker at the University of Okara, Pakistan, and Women's University, Multan, Pakistan, sharing my insights and expertise with peers and students alike.

Lastly, my external linkages with esteemed institutions like Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, University of Okara, Pakistan, Women University, Multan, Pakistan, and The Islamia University, Bahawalpur, reflect my commitment to collaborative research and knowledge sharing on a global scale. Dr. Wajid Nazeer's contributions to cotton breeding and his commitment to research and education make him a distinguished figure in his field.

Collaborations are welcome in the field of Crop Genetics and breeding.
